Dunamanagh '85

With Ned at the helm and 'Twin' Tracey on board,
Silverware was needed, we'd be put to the sword,
the league started well, we got on a run,
the championship would follow, in the summer sun,

First up were Greencastle, known as the hoops,
sure we beat them handy, and had a few scoops,
with training now tougher, a few men got lighter,
just as well, as the sessions got tighter,

Derrytresk were next, on a dirty wet night,
scores were tight, not a pretty sight,
with tackling tough, there was plenty of groans,
especially when 'Shapman' got a kick in the .......,

Loughshore again, Brockagh next in line,
Ned calmed the ship, 'Lads, all will be fine',
It was going to script, then Brockagh turned the tide,
until Conal 'the cat' Houston, pushed a screamer wide,

A 3rd Junior final was our next big date,
the men from the Lough, lying in wait,
with 'Fergie-time' looming, things didn't look great,
but up popped John-Declan to seal their fate,

The replay was different, Ned lifted the gloom,
his mentor McKeever demolished the room,
now full of vigour, spirit and fight,
'We'll stuff 'The Lough', right out of sight,

Changes were needed, so Ned had to fiddle,
Damien 'Lad' and Eunan went back to the middle,
Eunan and his socks, one up, one down,
some thought he resembled 'Coco the Clown',

As half-time approached, we were five points up,
keep'er lit, growled McKeever and we will win the cup,
they were hard to finish off, dogged and hardy,
until a bullet from the mullet, ie a penalty from Wardy,

Celebrations were rife, all man had a beer,
these could be heard, both far and near,
but the best of all, was the 'scoot round the town',
the peelers feared an ambush 'going down',

25 years on, joints creaking and sore,
belt sizes much bigger, mullets no more,
great now to reflect, on a memorable day,
the oppressed lads from the village, had their say !!
